1,000 Books Before Kindergarten
Join our free program that encourages you to read 1,000 books with your child before they begin kindergarten! Reading together helps develop important pre-literacy skills that provide a solid foundation for academic success, and one of the best ways to encourage reading is to do it every day.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
1,000 books are a lot! How can we possibly read that much?
If you read three books a day with your child, you'll finish in just ONE YEAR. Read two books a day with your child, you'll finish in TWO YEARS. Read one book a day with your child, you'll finish in THREE YEARS.
Can we read the same book over and over?
Yes! Repetition is important for growing minds, so we encourage you to read some of the same stories.
What ages can participate?
From birth until your child begins kindergarten.
How do I sign up?
Sign up and track progress online on your computer or download the Beanstack Tracker app for your mobile on the App Store or GooglePlay. Once you have downloaded the Beanstack Tracker app, search for "Henderson Libraries" to register with us!
Does my child receive anything for reading so many books?
For every 100 books read, your child will receive a personalized coloring page certificate and a sticker. When they reach their first 100 books, they will also receive a fabulous tote bag. Once your child reads 1,000 books, they will receive their own book to keep!
Are we limited to just reading library books?
You can read anything! Books from your home, the library, a grandparent's house, anywhere. You can even listen to audiobooks. Don't forget to count the books we read in storytime, as well!
