Experts in our Community will share best practices — insights, updates and more!

Salinda Strandberg is the Sustainability Advisor with Republic Services who helps people make greener choices without feeling overwhelmed—or giving up their favorite snacks. She’s especially passionate about reducing waste and rethinking how we shop, and she loves breaking big environmental topics down in a way that’s simple, practical, and occasionally funny. She believes small steps matter… and that sustainability should feel doable, not doom‑filled.

Tara Pike is the Sustainability Coordinator for UNLV. Thirty years ago, she started the UNLV Rebel Recycling Program after completing an undergraduate senior thesis on the topic for her Environmental studies/Biology degree. She served on the 2006 and 2007 Clark County Recycling Advisory Committee that proposed the Enhanced Curbside Recycling Pilot Program that has led to improved curbside recycling for North Las Vegas, Las Vegas, Henderson, and Clark County. She is in her 14th year as the chairperson of the Southern Nevada Christmas Tree Recycling Committee and her 15th year as a member of the Campus Race to Zero Waste Board, currently the Vice President.

Presentation topics include:

  • Recycling the right way and why it matters
  • Consumer Confusion
  • How Republic Services is contributing to the circular economy
  • Polymer Center
  • Hazardous Waste
  • Reduce, reuse, recycle, compost information
  • UNLV and community-wide sustainability information
