Our Response to the Coronavirus (COVID-19)

Update, 3/1/2021:

We are excited to enter Phase 3 of our Reopening Plan and open up our libraries to the community! We are offering the following express services at our Gibson, Green Valley, and Paseo Verde locations:

  • Quick browsing
  • Self-checkout
  • Short-term computer sessions (60 minutes max per day)
  • Printing and copying (with the assistance of a team member)

Curbside pickup is still available during our open hours. All of our programs, including storytimes and book clubs, remain virtual. We are still not accepting book donations at this time.

Find out more and see all future updates at hendersonlibraries.com/updates.

Update, 10/15/2020:

We'd like to thank you again for your patience and understanding while our buildings have been closed due to the Covid-19 outbreak.

The safety of our team and community are of the utmost importance to us. As such, we are still in Phase 2 of our reopening plan, which includes virtual programs for all ages, appointment-free curbside pickup, and the opening of our book drops so we can accept library materials at any time that is convenient for you.

As of right now, our buildings will remain closed, but please be assured that we are working hard to move into the next phase of our plan and reopen our libraries with limited services.

We truly appreciate your support during this very strange chapter. It's unlike anything our library district has experienced in 76 years of serving the community. We really miss our library patrons and volunteers and hope to share some good news with you soon.

Update, 9/28/2020:

Returning Items
The book drops at our libraries are now open "after hours." The blue return bins will still be out while we're assisting patrons with curbside pickup, but you can now return items when we're closed, too. Reminder: Everything will be quarantined for at least 72 hours before being checked in, so don’t worry if you still see items on your account for a few extra days.

Update, 6/10/2020:

First and foremost, we want to thank everyone for their patience and understanding while our buildings have been closed during the COVID-19 outbreak. We know how much you miss the library — it's been hard for us, too! But libraries are not included in the state's phased reopening plans, nor has there been any industry-specific guidance for public libraries reopening, so it is up to each library district to ensure that their actions keep both their staff and community safe.

We are aligning our next steps with available safety precautions and have developed a phased reopening plan. We are currently in Phase 2, which consists of an online Summer Reading Challenge, virtual storytimes and other programs, curbside pickup services, and accepting items for return (see below for more info). Our buildings will remain closed for now.

Thank you again for continuing to support Henderson Libraries during these unprecedented times.

Phased Reopening Plan

Curbside Pickup

We know you've been itching for new books, and we are happy to now offer Curbside Pickup by appointment!

  • Call us or go online to reserve books, DVDs, or other items.
  • When your items are ready, look for an email or text message letting you know you can now schedule a curbside appointment.
  • Call us or use the link in your email to schedule a date and time to pick up your items (up to one week in advance, no same-day appointments).

Once you arrive at your appointment time, park in your assigned spot, give us a call, and we'll bring your holds out in a safe and contactless way. You can also return any library materials at that time. You have the option of pedestrian pickup, as well, if you prefer to walk or ride your bike to one of our locations.

Please note: If you no longer want your items, you can cancel your request through the notification email or just give us a call. Thank you in advance for your patience as we work through the backlog of requests.

Returning Library Materials

Thank you for holding on to your library books, DVDs, and other items these past few months. You can finally start returning them!

We now have blue return bins outside each library during designated hours. All returned materials will be quarantined for at least 72 hours, which means items will still show on your account for a few days after you've returned them. But don't worry, all due dates have been extended, and we are not charging any late fees.

When you stop by, please park in unmarked spots (away from curbside pickup) and bring your items to the designated blue bins. You may return materials at the following times:

Gibson & Green Valley locations*

  • Mon: 9am to 4pm
  • Tues & Wed: 12 to 7pm
  • Thurs & Fri: 9am to 4pm
  • Sat: 10am to 2pm

Paseo Verde location*

  • Mon & Tues: 9am to 7pm
  • Wed - Sat: 9am to 4pm

We are not yet accepting book donations, so please hang on to those or donate them to another local organization, like Spread the Word Nevada. Thank you!

*Return bin hours updated 7/30/2020.

Update, 5/21/2020:

We are hoping to offer limited services beginning sometime in June.

Update, 5/8/2020:

As the governor continues lifting restrictions, our team is working on a plan to roll out limited services soon. More information will be coming as the plan is finalized.

3/15/2020:

Dear Patrons & Community Members:

All Henderson Libraries’ locations are closed until further notice to keep our team, library users, and community members safe during the COVID-19 outbreak. We will continue to monitor the situation and make adjustments if needed.

We will not charge late fees during this time, so please feel free to keep your materials and return them when we reopen. Additionally, we will hold requested items for patrons until we reopen.

Please take advantage of our digital library (downloadable books and audio books, streaming music and movies, and digital magazines) during this time.

Please contact us for any library related questions or concerns.

Stay well and we look forward to seeing everyone online.
